Addressing gaps in equity to create safe spaces and improve health outcomes for Black women and girls
MaternalHealth
We believe in creating an equitable landscape for Black birthing persons in Chicago by encouraging cross-sector systems change. We engage community health centers, hospitals and public health agencies to bring those whose lives are at risk to the table to drive change.
MentalHealth
As mental health conditions continue to increase across the country, we’re expanding access to local mental health services for Black women and youth. Since 2020, we have sponsored over 500 free therapy sessions, partnering with Black women mental health professionals to bring care to those who need it.
CommunityEngagement
Now more than ever, communities in Chicago are severely under-resourced and disinvested, which was only compounded during COVID-19. We’re increasing access to nutritious foods and essential goods for families, expectant and postpartum persons and unhoused populations.
Wellness
Black Girls Break Bread is dedicated to fostering the health and well-being of Black women through diverse wellness services. Our approach emphasizes mindfulness and meditation, addressing holistic health needs and stress management in a supportive environment.
Join us in creating positive change in the lives of women and girls
“Black Girls Break Bread has allowed women to come together with other women and realize that there are people that feel the same ways that they do and they are not alone...they have created a much needed safe space for women.”
